The Reverend Dr. Oscar Terrance Moses is the second child of the late Oscar Moses and Rosetta Moses-Hill and the fifth generation to preach the gospel. He serves as the 24th Pastor of the historic Calvary Missionary Baptist Church in Salt Lake City, Utah.
Dr. Moses is a graduate of Mendel Catholic Preparatory High School of Chicago. He earned his Bachelor of Science Degree in Criminal Justice with a minor in Religious Studies from Southern Illinois University in Carbondale. On June 6, 2000 he received his Masters of Arts in Theological Studies from McCormick Theological Seminary. On May 21, 2001, he received a Certificate of Completion for one extended unit of level one CPE by the Association for Clinical Pastoral Education, Inc. at Advocate South Suburban Hospital. Dr. Moses is a Mckissick / Carter Fellow graduate of the United Theological Seminary where he earned his Doctor of Ministry Degree in 2014. His dissertation was focused on Preaching That Challenges Congregations to Transform Community Hopelessness to Hope and Beyond.
Dr. Moses married his helpmeet, Jacqueline Marie, on July 27, 1996. She has earned a Masters Degree in Special Education from Saint Xavier University in Chicago, and she has an earned Doctoral Degree in Educational Psychology from National Lewis University in Skokie, Illinois.
Dr. Moses has a passion for “soul winning”. His commitment to teaching the Word of God has inspired the development of W.A.R. (Word of God, Applied, Rightly) Bible Study.
Dr. Moses brings to Calvary Baptist Church a new vision and theme: Preparing Future Generations To Evangelize The World and the Christian Family Value System, a five point plan to establish a Christian Code of Conduct in the 21st Century. Upon becoming the new pastor of Calvary, he established the Shepherd’s Staff Ministry, Amandla Social Justice Ministry, the CSI Ministry, (Creative Stategic and Intentional), Decision Time Counselors Ministry, Together We Are Stronger (T.W.A.S.) Married Couples Ministry, Ubuntu Ministry (I am because we are) and policies and procedures for funerals and weddings.
Under his leadership, Pastor Emeritus France A. Davis Day was established to honor annually Rev. Davis’ contributions to Calvary and celebrate his birthday. Pastor Moses has established new community partnerships with World Vision, Colon, Diabetes & Alzheimer’s Awareness groups. Our Media Ministy Virtual Productions has been enhanced to continue meeting the needs of Calvary during the 2020-2021 Covid-19 Pandemic Crisis through uninterrupted worship service, W.A.R. Bible Study, Vacation Bible School, Prayer Line, etc. He’s been active in sharing Calvary’s vision through numerous TV, radio, print and podcast interviews.
Dr. Moses served as the Moderator for the Christian Unity Baptist District Association for 10 years. He served as the Chair of Evangelism for the Illinois National Baptist State Convention and the President of the Pastor’s and Ministers Auxiliary for the National Baptist Convention of America Inc. Dr. Moses is a former adjunct professor at Trinity Christian College in Palos, Illinois teaching Christian Worldview.
Dr. Moses is the author of Before You Send Them Out – Countering A Culture of Unprepared Disciples, The Movement in Acts, Five People You Need In Your Life and just released and written personally for Calvary Baptist Church, The Christian Family Value System: Preparing Future Generations to Evangelize the World. He is currently working on The Urgency of Now – Taking Your Position In The Kingdom. Dr. Moses is a member of Omega Psi Phi Inc. Fraternity.
Dr. Moses is a Bible believing, God trusting and God fearing servant of the Lord. His favorite scripture is “Trust in the Lord with all thine heart; and lean not unto thine own understanding. In all thy ways acknowledge him, and he shall direct thy paths.” Proverbs 3:5-6. It is evident that God is truly directing his path as he continues to serve Him in spirit and in truth.
